What is the Occupiers Liability Act?

An occupier of a premises is the person or company that is responsible for those premises in law. The occupier can be liable for injuries that occur to visitors whether this is an office, shop, or car park etc.

The law states that an occupier must ensure that any visitor is ‘reasonably safe in using the premises for the purposes for which he is invited or permitted by the occupier to be there’. Sometimes, even if the occupier has provided a warning to a visitor about a potential danger, which subsequently causes an accident, they may still be liable in law.

You may also have a personal injury claim even if you were trespassing on the premises or land.

The most common accidents at work are tripping and slipping but other accidents can include falling or injuries caused by faulty or defective parts of the premises or equipment that is on the premises.
